Jewelry & Mixed Media

In the tradition of the Abstract Expressionists, my work stems from a subconscious and intuitive process. I record my energy and passions, and the works are truly an expression of my soul and experiences. Essential to the language of my painting is the layering of textures, marks and colors to create a history of surface. Recent travels to Italy and exposure to the sensibility of the eroding nature of ancient architecture have influenced my latest work. I build up and tear down, excavating to recreate a sense of the mysterious through many layers of media. In this process, I cherish the freedom I have found to experiment, express, and explore the world through my work.

Kim draws inspiration from alley walks, recycle bins, flea markets, fossil hunts and the ocean. She repurposes rusted springs, tin cans, and globes, vintage Bakelite toys, pulp fiction paperbacks-to name a few. Some of these come together as wall pieces and some become wearable art.

Kim's jewelry combines this detritus with gems, fossils, unaltered river stones and beach glass, pearls and occasionally a raw diamond. She delights in contrasting rough edges and textures with something faceted or smooth. Kim is happy to take a break from working on tiny things to build wall pieces.
