Links 1619 Steamroller Project

   AWK-325-   /  Tuesday, October 22, 2019

Location: Muscarelle at Merchant's Square (above Williams Sonoma)
            Times: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
This workshop is FREE and is open to WCAC Members Only.
            Instructor: Steve Prince

The Links Projects is a global initiative to draw upon various cultures and age demographics in reflecting upon the history and the impact of slavery through the cathartic nature of art creating.  Participants will have the opportunity to create individualized artworks in the form of puzzle pieces that will ultimately connect to create a singular piece of contemporary art.  The multi-block artwork will be printed with an industrial steamroller on November 7th as part of the ASWAD (Association for the Study of Worldwide African Diaspora) conference at Merchant Square. On one hand Links alludes to the shackles of slavery, but on the other hand, Links champions our connection to each other and the importance for us to collectively grapple with the stains of slavery in order to create deeper and more sustainable connections centered on love and community.

Note: The workshop utilizes rotary power tools to enable the students to create the original works of art.  The students should come in casual clothing.  Students clothes will not be damaged during the process they will only get dusty.  Students with long hair should pull hair back and no dangling jewelry or neck ties.  I will provide masks and eye protection.  No artistic skills required for the project, just imagination.

Contact Karen Schwartz, karenschwartz.art@gmail.com / 757.879.4328, to sign up for this workshop.
