Instructor: Ken Wright
About the Instructor: Ken is a Richmond VA native. He graduated from Norfolk State University with a BFA in graphics and fine arts. He was a Virginia Arts Commissioner and served on many arts boards over the years. For more than forty years, Ken has also been an accomplished abstract painter winning more than 300 awards and honors for his works. His paintings have been featured in prominent collections all over the United States and abroad, including those of two former Presidents, George W. Bush and Barack Obama – both pieces hung in the White House during their terms. Ken has also been teaching abstract painting classes and workshops in the Greater Hampton Roads area for 40 plus years.
About the class: For students at all levels of painting experience, knowledge, and ability. Ken will show you how to recognize and paint from realism into abstract - because abstraction is a close-up view of realism. Over the course of three sessions, you will become more creative in the use of shape and form, and learn that to actually paint "abstract," you must first understand "realism" and how it relates to abstraction.
Supplies to be provided by students: Several brushes that are suitable for acrylics, including at least one flat brush 2-3 inches wide. Also, canvas, canvas board, and/or heavy or firm paper. You will also need an assortment of acrylic paints & colors, water container, palette, and paper towels or rags.
Enrollment deadline: February 6, 2021. Note: A minimum of five students must be enrolled to proceed with this class, so please enroll as soon as possible.
